Overview:
The 4th Infantry Division had struggled through savage fighting in the Hürtgen Forest. Heavy casualties among veteran troop and leaders had taken their toll, forcing both sides to rely on waves of lesser experienced replacements to fill their depleted ranks. Now, Colonel Charles Lanham's 22nd Infantry Regiment was approaching the edge of the forest west of Grosshau. One of the final objectives Lanham had to clear before breaking out of the forest was the rubble filled village of Grosshau. Believed to be lightly defended, the village lay across hundreds of shellholes and open ground. A task force consisting of 3rd Battalion's King and Love Companies, along with attached Sherman tanks and M-10 tank destroyers prepared to attack Grosshau.Attacker: American (King and Love Companies, 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment and 2nd Platoon, C Company,, 7th Tank Battalion with 803rd Tank Destroyer Battalion, 4th Infantry Division)
