Overview:
Advanced elements of Colonel Kohei Maruoka's Okabe Detachment set out to capture the strategic airstrip of Wau, only to find Captain Bill Sherlock and his A Coy, 2/6 Battalion, a platoon from 2/5 Battalion, and a platoon of 2/5 Independent Coy Commandos blocking their path across Wandumi Ridge. The Australians would hold out on the ridge until early evening under tremendous pressure.
