Overview:

The morning brought overcast skies and a light snow. Not the best weather for a breakout which would rely heavily on air power to suppress the enemy along the way. Captain Stamford's TCAP was informed by a lone reconnaissance aircraft that the weather conditions were forecasted to improve by midday and Marine air support would come on station and be overhead continuously the rest of the day. In the intervening few hours preparations for a breakout were set in motion, the best of the remaining vehicles were drawn up in a convoy, fueled with syphoned fuel from those that would not run and the rest destroyed. But because of the losses in Officers and NCOs, orders and tasks were not smoothly executed and there was confusion, but no panic. By 1 PM Task Force Faith was ready to move out with an M19A1 and C Company tasked to punch a hole in the enemy lines, and A and B Companies to follow in trace by leaps and bounds and so clearing the way. The artillerymen and mortar-men were to expend all remaining ammunition as preparatory fires, then destroy their tubes and fall in as infantrymen to quard the vehicle convoy composed entirely wounded. The last two still functioning AAA vehicles would also help guard the convoy. What remained of the 3rd Battalion was to form a rear guard.
