Overview:

At 0800 in the morning of the 30th, on its fourth day, Task Force Faith came under the operational control of the 1st Marine Division. At the inlet it was relatively quiet throughout most sectors of the perimeter. Captain Stamford and his TACP were busy directing airstrikes against the hillsides which kept the enemy for the most part pinned down. This enabled those within the perimeter to improve their fighting positions, light warning fires and cook, make repairs to vehicles damaged in the fighting thus far, and recover what supply canisters fell on that day's drop within friendly lines., which was not much, but among the loads was .50 caliber ammunition, which went primarily to the AAA vehicles so valuable to the defense thus far. The main hot spot was where the road and rail line crossed over very short span-bridges spanning a shallow gully at the western end of the perimeter, an area which would see unspeakable sorrow on the morrow. This area, a juncture between A and C Companies, needed reinforcing and Lt. May, of the motor battalion, was tasked to round up a force and establish a fire block there.
